I am constructing another children’s book. This time it’s mice.

I have not done mice since 1964 when my story was about a mouse that learned to play the Balalaika. This is about a family of troubled mice. I have written and illustrated more than fifty books but now I wonder if I have gone full circle?

I am very fortunate to have a work room which leads on to a garden. I have recently established a relationship with a robin. The robin watches me when I step outside and, if I want to please the bird, I will move a pot or pull up a weed so the robin can find an insect to eat.

There are lots of things we all have to worry about: The Middle East, global warming, the bank, family, etc, but I have now added to my list the well-being of the robin in the garden. Oh dear, maybe the robin is next..
